Area fire departments are top of the line

Becker FD

The Becker Fire Dept. consists of a part-time chief and 35 paid-on-call firefighters. They operate out of two fire stations, Station 1 located in the City of Becker and Station 2 located in Santiago.

The goal of the fire department is to protect the citizens and their property to the best of their abilities.

The firefighters respond to both fire and medical emergencies with a a call volume of approximately 525+ responses annually.

The fire department serves the City of Becker, Becker Twp. and has a fire service contract with the Santiago Town Board to serve Santiago Twp.

Station 1 has the capabilities to provide training to their own department but also to firefighters in surrounding communities.

 The Becker Fire Dept. is located at 14240 Bank Street in Becker, MN 55308.

Big Lake FD

The Big Lake Fire Dept. consists of 27 volunteer firefighters. Of those firefighters, there are Fire Chief Seth Hansen; Assistant Fire Chief Mark Hedstrom; Captain Tim Davis; Captain Charles Stern; Captain Nick Christenson; Captain Jeff Novak; Captain Kiel Ruberg; Lieutenant Noel Krebs and Lieutenant Sam Hanson.

The Big Lake Fire Dept. is located at 20243 Co. Rd. 43 in Big Lake, MN 55309.

Clear Lake FD

The Clear Lake Fire Dept. consists of 28 firefighters and is led by Fire Chief Ron Koren, Asst. Fire Chiefs Matt Lunser, Craig Miller, and Barry Schuldt, Capts Chad Koren, Ryan Leaders, and Ryan Peterson, and Lts Chad Nelson and Branden Weis. Last year the department responded to 251 calls. So far in 2022 the department has had 192 calls. The department operates out of two fire stations, Station 1 in Clear Lake and Station 2 in Palmer.

Named after former fire chief Leo Carlin, the department is supported by their mascot, Leo the Fire Dog. Carlin was the mayor and fire chief of Clear Lake for many years and dedicated much of his time to the community. Leo’s costume purchase was made possible through a grant. Leo can be seen at the department’s annual open house and during local parades.

Clearwater FD

The Clearwater Fire Dept. is made up of 19 full time firefighters, two part time firefighters, and three firefighters who are currently in the process of joining. Officers include Fire Chief Mike Keller, Asst. Fire Chief John Schmidt, Capt. Jim Repke, and Lts Brandon Hanebuth, Jason Lang, and Andy Struffert. Last year the department averaged one call per day with a total of 366 calls. So far in 2022 the department has responded to 290 calls.

After years of research and planning, the department purchased a new fire truck, Engine 12. The new engine is larger and can put out fires in less time with significantly less water than previous fire trucks. The engine is equipped with a battery operated jaws of life and spreader combination set, which are so light one firefighter can operate them. The department is currently in the process of purchasing new SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) gear.

The Clearwater Fire Dept. is always looking for new firefighters. Anyone who would like to apply is encouraged to stop by city hall to pick up an application.
