Christmas is coming!
Many area merchants, churches, schools and organizations are and below you can find out what is happening, where it’s happening and what times.
• The Becker Area Chamber of Commerce is holding their annual Holiday Social at Pebble Creek Golf Course Thurs., Dec. 14 from 5-8 p.m. Free appetizers will be available and door prizes will be given away. Beverages will also be served;
• Members of Mary of the Visitation Church in Big Lake and Becker will be caroling and gathering food shelf donations Dec. 9 in Big Lake neighborhoods. Following the caroling, they will be collecting food for Big Lake and Becker’s food shelves. Anyone who wants to join the carolers in singing are welcome. Interested parties can find more information on maryofthevisitation.org website. Food Shelf drop offs can be made at Mary of the Visitation if not participating in the caroling;
• Clearview Elementary School will be holding their Winter Sing concert Thurs., Dec. 21 at 1 p.m.;
• The Becker Community Holiday Fund group will be holding their sixth annual Free Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dinner is FREE to anyone and is held at the Becker Community Center. There will also be face painting and photo opportunities with Santa & Mrs. Claus;
• Christ The King Retreat Center in Buffalo is holding their Children’s Memorial Candle Lighting ceremony, Sun., Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a framed photo to the event;
• Anna’s Tea for Widows in the Community will be holding a Christmas Tea event at 3 p.m., Thurs., Dec. 14 at Becker Baptist Church. The celebration of Jesus’ birth will feature local musician, Linda Strater;
• The BCC is hosting Cooking with Mrs. Claus on Dec. 9 from 9-10:30 a.m. for kids aged four through eight;
• Metro Transit and BNSF are excited to offer a new Holiday tradition on Sat., Dec. 9 at 2:45 p.m. when the Northstar Train out of Big Lake will travel all the way to Union Depot in St. Paul where guests will be able to enjoy the outdoor European Christmas Market for two hours of shopping, food and seasonal entertainment for the entire family. Santa’s elves will also be on hand on the train, helping people get into the Holiday spirit. Return trip leaves Union Depot at 6:15 p.m. and arrives in Big Lake at around 7:33 p.m.;
• The King is Coming Live Nativity will be held Sat. Dec. 23, from 4 p.m.-7p.m. at Tri-County Alliance Church 8464 160th St. NW, Clearwater. Narration will be at 5 and 6 p.m. Follow the shepherds and lanterns. Warm up in the hospitality room with treats, hot chocolate and decorate your own gingerbread house (all materials will be supplied and free). • Christmas Happening at Faith Lutheran. Fear Not is an original production and will be held Sun., Dec. 10 at 9:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, on Sherburne Ave. across from Becker High School. On Sun., Dec. 17 at 5 p.m., there will be an evening of prayer and reflection with the Blue Christmas in the Season of the Longest Night;
• Bailey Rays in Santiago will be holding a Kids Christmas Extravaganza Dec. 9 from 1-3 p.m. where guests can enjoy cookie decorating, face painting, crafts, games and get their picture taken at the photo booth. The event is hosted by the Santiago Lions and will feature live music from the Land of Lakes Boys Choir;
• The Great River Reginal Library in Clearwater will host a Handmade Ornament-Making Event Dec. 16 held by Penny Leuthard of Clearwater. Leuthard will supply the provisions and the inspiration that will add a special sparkle to ones’ home decor. the event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Library;
• Rejoice Lutheran Church will be holding their Church Christmas Program Dec. 17 at 3 p.m. followed by a Youth Bake Sale from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.;
• St. Marcus Church will be holding their Youth Christmas program Dec. 20 at 6:45 p.m.;
• Santa is coming to visit the Young at Heart group Dec. 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. during their monthly event.
