Area Boaters Show Off Their Patriotic Spirit

BY PENNY LEUTHARD, STAFF WRITER

Big Elk Lake, Briggs Lake, Lake Julia and Rush Lake held their annual 4th of July boat parades June 30th. Sponsored by the Briggs Lake Chain Association (BLCA), the parades are organized each year to celebrate the Fourth and allow area residents to show off their patriotic spirit.

Participants in the upper three lakes of the BLCA parade their decorated boats along the shoreline of Briggs Lake, Rush Lake and Lake Julia, while participants on Big Elk Lake have a separate boat parade around that lake.

The BLCA also organizes a 4th of July fireworks event each year on Briggs Lake, which has also held on June 30 this year. A fundraiser selling brats and pork chops at McDonald’s Meats in Clear Lake July 5 concludes this year’s BLCA holiday activities.
