Becker High School seniors are encouraged to apply for one of two $2,500 college scholarships that will be awarded in the memory of Janet and Jim Boettcher, a husband and wife who were long-time employees of the City of Becker.
Janet served as the City Clerk and also volunteered to be the director of the Becker Food Shelf until her death in 2023. Jim was the Public Works director and also a Volunteer Firefighter who served as Chief for close to two decades.
“These scholarships seek to honor the lives of Janet and Jim Boettcher by supporting students who are pursuing careers in civil service,” the Boettcher family states in a description of the scholarships. “Civil service careers offer individuals the unique opportunity to be part of something bigger than themselves and to make a difference in the lives of others.”
Any high school student at Becker High School may apply for this scholarship if they’re interested in civil service, but special consideration will be given to those interested in careers in local government, firefighting, or related industries.
To apply, write a short essay telling us how you hope to help others through your future career. Applications are available at: https://bold.org/scholarships/janet-and-jim-boettcher-memorial-scholarship/.
