It was the biggest crowd of adults that ever attended a program at the Clearwater Library, and it’s sure to attract another big crowd this year.
“What’s It Worth?,” a program featuring Mark Moran, who has appeared on Antiques Roadshow, drew more than 80 people to the library last May.
He’s back again this year Monday at the Clearwater Library to do what he does best, examine, evaluate and appraise items people bring in.
The program allows up to 40 people to present Moran with their “valuable” objects. Last year, the sign-up sheet was filled not long after people found out about the program. But the library was packed with others who just wanted to observe Moran’s expertise. And he is also adept at storytelling and making humorous remarks about so-called treasures people bring in.
One of his most notable sayings refers to the high dollar value some people believe their items are worth.
“There’s the talkin’ price and there’s the walkin’ price,” he says. “And until it walks out the door, you can talk all you want to about what it should be worth.”
That doesn’t mean the items aren’t valuable. It could be that someone has a real treasure, and one way to find out is to attend Monday’s program.
There are lots of different items already on the list for Moran to appraise this year, including paintings, a silver business card holder, dolls, an ivory Buddha, old doorbell, tobacco can, desk, German mug, baseball cards, old fishing lure, snuff box, an 1800s book, prints, a quilt, figurines, an original sketch, vanity set, a table and a Navajo bracelet. And there should be lots more during the three-hour program.
As of Tuesday, 33 of the 40 spots were filled. But there might be an opening left. The program runs from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Check at the library or call 320-558-6001.
