Another Busy Road Construction Season

After a snowy and wet start to the year, county road construction went into full swing this spring and is now in its busiest period.

A few projects are already completed. Others are just starting and some are coming up soon.

Co. Rd. 16

A big project currently in progress is a road reconstruction on. Co. Rd. 16 between Co. Rd. 11 to Co. Rd.  93. The project will create two 12-foot lanes with six-foot paved shoulders. Work will consist of re-grading, paving driveways, replacing culverts, re-aligning the curve by Co. Rd. 11 and adding right turn and bypass lanes. Utility companies are in the process of moving their lines. The project is slated for completion in mid-September.

Co. Rd. 38

A road reconstruction project on Co. Rd. 38 from Hwy. 169 to the east county line began in late June and is expected to be done in early September. The project will accommodate  two 12-foot driving lanes with six-foot paved shoulders. Work will consist of re-grading the roadway, paving driveways and replacing culverts. Right turn and bypass lanes will be added. The contractor is in the process of grading, and paving is anticipated to start the week of Aug. 12.

Co. Rd. 6

The county recently finished a project on Co. Rd. 6. The project involved replacing the pavement on a stretch of Co Rd. 6 from Co. Rd. 16 to Co. Rd. 3, creating two 12-foot driving lanes and six-foot wide paved shoulders. The project began May 20 and was completed June 28.

Co. Rd. 19

The county has completed a pavement rehabilitation project on Co. Rd. 19 between Hwy. 169 to 104th Street that started May 20 and finished in late June. The road now has tow 12-foot driving lanes and six-foot paved shoulders. It includes right turn and bypass lanes at designated intersections.

Co. Rd. 33

Another completed project was a resurfacing of Co.  Rd. 33 from Auburn Street to Co. Rd. 13. The resurfaced road matches the previous two 12-foot driving lanes. No other improvements were added to the project, which was completed July 8.

Co. Rd. 13

Roundabouts

The county is in the process of building two roundabouts on Co. Rd. 13, one at Co. Rd. 40 and the other at the east junction of Co. Rd. 33. The contractor is currently grading and will begin hauling aggregate base soon. The project is expected to be completed in September.

Co. Rd. 45

Roundabout

Another roundabout is being built at Co. Rd. 45 and 125th Street. Construction began in early June. Utilities are being installed and paving is scheduled to begin later in the week. The project is expected to be completed in September.

2 Bridges

Two bridges that span the Elk River are being replaced this year, one on Co Rd. 3 and the other on Co. Rd. 6.

The Co. Rd. 3 bridge will have two 12-foot driving lanes and eight-foot shoulders. As of this week, the contractor is working on the bridge pier and abutments.  Completion is slated for Sept. 20.

The Co. Rd. 6 bridge will also have two 12-foot driving lanes and eight-foot shoulders. The bridge beams are in place and the contractor is working on preparing the bridge deck for concrete. It is expected to be done Aug. 20.

Co. Rd. 9

Still ahead is a pavement rehabilitation project on Co. Rd. 9 that starts at Co. Rd. 5 and ends at Co. Rd. 1. That project will create two 12-foot driving lanes with 4-foot wide paved shoulders. Right turn and bypass lanes will be added at designated intersections. The county will open bids for the project July 31, with construction to begin in September and completion expected in October.

2 Culverts

Another project involves replacing a bridge/culvert on Co. Rd. 79 over County Ditch #1. The project will be combined with the culvert replacement on Ranch Road in Big Lake Twp.  Both projects will be completed this summer.
