All Night Grad Party A ‘Big Deal’

This year’s Class of 2019 extended their special day last Friday well into Saturday morning as they gathered at the BCC for an all-night graduation fun night.

The event began at 10:30 p.m. with grads arriving to a check-in table at the front doors to receive a bag with goodies. The theme was “Casino Night” and numerous volunteers from the community — including parents and grandparents — helped out in some way including being casino card dealers. The grads were taught strategies on card playing and the winnings were play money used later on at the live auction.

Just inside the doors of the BCC, this reporter and part-time caricaturist (Bill Morgan) set up his easel and pad of paper and was kept very busy all night drawing cartoon faces of the recent grads.

Inside the gym, parents oversaw games that included bean bag toss, karoake and the kitchen had a plethora of pizzas, McChicken sandwiches, chips, popcorn and sodas.

Around 1 a.m., three judges assembled in the gymnasium to vote for the best lip-sync group out of three entrants. Though the contestants were all very good, the duo of Kaj Fritsch and Lincoln Carlson took home first place with a routine that riled up the spectators.

Immediately after the lip-sync contest, a live auction was presented where grads could bid on items with the money they won while playing cards. Some of the items bid on were a flat-screen TV, a mini refrigerator and jewelry.

After the auction, a hypnotist/comedian was summoned and he worked the students and spectators, preparing them to become partners in his show and combining several aspects of hypnosis in an entertaining, comedic and fun performance.

What a deal this Casino-themed party was for the 2019 graduating seniors of Becker High School.
