Authorities in Wright County were in an ongoing standoff with a man accused of assaulting his wife in Albertville Monday night.
The sheriff’s office was called to the home just after 8 p.m. on a domestic assault call. The woman told police her husband had assaulted her and left the home when she called 911.
Police issued a pick-up and hold order on the man.
Police were called again just before 12:30 Tuesday morning after the 35-year-old suspect, Justin Dellwo, returned. Dellwo left before authorities arrived and they learned that he may have a gun.
The sheriff’s office says the suspect was located a short time later on Jason Ave. NE, north of Co. Rd. 37. Authorities pursued the suspect when he refused to stop, ending at the roundabout off Fenning Ave. NE and School Blvd. in Monticello. The suspect refused to cooperate with deputies for several hours, before surrendering just after 6 p.m..
Because the scene was near Eastview Elementary School, those classes were called off Tuesday and the public was asked to avoid the area near the Fenning Ave./School Blvd. roundabout.
Dellwo was safely taken into custody after more than 17 hours of negotiations. Dellwo was treated for minor injuries and booked into the Wright County Jail. Dellwo is being held for Felony-Level Domestic Assault, Fleeing a Peace Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, as well as other charges stemming from this incident.
