Aimee Schulz of Becker and graduating with a degree in Genetics from Iowa State University, received the award for Academic Achievement from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Student Council.
This award recognizes a student for their cumulative GPA, scholarships received, Honors received at ISU, as well as the number of semesters on the Dean's List.
At Iowa State, Aimee has been an undergraduate researcher managing a summer field, helping with various research projects, even presenting posters at national conferences on her work.
She has completed two independent research projects including a highly competitive NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates program at the Danforth Center for Plant Scientific Research in St. Louis. Outside of the laboratory, Aimee represented CALS at the Iowa Women Lead Change conference and has served as president of the ISU Equestrian Club.
"Aimee has achieved academic and research excellence while also pursuing her extra-curricular passions," said Dr. Matthew Hufford, assistant professor, "not surprisingly, she was recruited by the very best graduate programs in our field and has accepted a fully funded Ph.D. position at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York with Edward Buckler, a member of the National Academy Of Sciences."
Award recipients will be recognized at the college convocation event May 10, 2019 beginning at 10:00 am in Hilton Coliseum. Presenting the award on behalf of council will be the 2019 CALS Council President, Jenna Rasmusson, and Vice President, Megan Zwiefel.
