Fifty-five young boys from the Becker area — grades two through seven — descended upon the Becker Community Center last Saturday night for the first annual “Boys Tween Night”.
Dozens of adventurous and enthusiastic boys were dropped off by parents and took to playing games, eating pizza and making new friends for two-and-a-half hours.
The boys tried their luck at the rockwall — under strict supervision of BCC staff — and donned velcro body suits to try to stick their bodies on the wall in the inflatable bouncy castle just down the hall from the front entrance. The boys also had some friendly competitions of “Nerf Games” in enclosed rooms just off the platform of the swimming pool area.
By the front door, BCC staff had a backdrop for all the kids to pose for free photographs while plenty of staff chaperoned and served refreshments for the eager youngsters.
The Becker Police Dept. and their non-profit — the Defenders — generously donated the use of their new portable video screen and projector so the kids could play Mario Kart video games in life-size dimensions.
In the gymnasium, two adult instructors organized several, what appeared to be, chaotic games of dodgeball to the delight of kids of all sizes.
The cost per boy was $10 prior to Jan. 15 and $15 at the door. The BCC had 17 boys pre-registered online via Eventbrite and 32 boys pre-registered at the front desk. Six boys registered as walk-ins the night of the event.
