With gates opening at 5:30 p.m. Friday, the 43rd annual Clearwater Rodeo was off and running. Presented by the Silver Bullet Saddle Club (SBSC), the three day event was held last weekend, with shows Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
During the TBRA Rodeo performances each day, the adult competitors wowed the crowds with bronc riding, steer wrestling, breakaway roping, tie down roping, team roping, barrel racing, and bull riding.
Youngsters also had the chance to be part of the rodeo. Each performance included a mutton bust for kids ages five to seven and a calf ribbon race for kids ages eight to 12.
The center act for all three performances was 15-year old trick rider and trick shooter Sophie Duch.
Dances followed the Friday and Saturday evening performances, with Hitchville entertaining the crowds Friday and Drop Tailgate on Saturday. Saturday also featured a pork chop dinner with all the trimmings.
Sunday was Kids’ Day and kicked off with a non-denominational cowboy church service at 10 a.m., followed by special fun and activities for kids 12 and under, including a petting zoo, free pony rides, games, and prizes. Sunday’s rodeo performance began at 2 p.m.
The rodeo was the first time the SBSC made use of the new bleachers they had purchased and installed this spring, which provided seating for an additional 400 to 500 spectators.
The Silver Bullet Saddle Club is a non-profit, community oriented organization whose members of all ages are dedicated to the education of equine activities and encouraging the humane treatment of all animals. The club prides itself on its family-friendly atmosphere and community involvement.
SBSC is always looking for new members and stress that ownership of a horse isn’t required. Although their largest event is the three-day annual Clearwater Rodeo, the club participates in various parades and other activities throughout the spring and summer and is also home to the ‘Chaos in Clearwater’ demolition derby.
