4 H’ers Show Off Their Stage Talents

The Sherburne County Fair begins Thursday, but for many 4-H’ers, it has already started.

Tuesday evening, members of the Refuge Rangers 4-H Club rehearsed their stage performance for Share the Fun, a performing arts project that will also be seen during the fair. Tuesday’s rehearsal took place at South Santiago Lutheran Church, a site convenient for the group that has members from Big Lake, Becker and Elk River.

But this year it was just one part of Sherburne County Showcase, an entire evening of performances by county 4-H kids that took place Thursday at Saron Lutheran Church in Big Lake.

Each club had a chance to perform a six-minute skit. Individual kids sang songs, played musical instruments and presented their projects in categories such as fashion review. They were judged just like they would have been during the county fair. Kids also spoke with judges before their performances.

The Rangers’ skit involved songs with similar chord progressions. With Evan Schafer on electric guitar, Connor Schafer on drums,  Taylor Muehlbauer playing keyboard and Bryce Beger on acoustic guitar, the group sang a series of songs.  Other kids held or wore props related to the songs, like picture frames, musical instruments, stuffed toys and special wardrobe accessories. One member was dressed like Bob Marley to simulate the theme of one of his songs.

It was a fun evening for the kids and parents as well.

Fair-goers will get a chance to see those performances at different times during the county fair, which runs from Thursday through Sunday.
