THIRD RAIL IN BIG LAKE held another fundraiser to raise money to pay for the huge mural to be painted on the side of their building this Spring. The fundraiser Beer Bust allowed guests to purchase a yellow wristband (inset) and drink domestic tap beer for just $10 all night or craft beer for $15. (Patriot Photo by Bill Morgan).

3rd Rail hosts Beer Bust for wall mural

Third Rail in Big Lake hosted a Beer Bust last Friday night to continue to raise funds to pay for the giant mural planned for the side of their building.

The Beer Bust included a wristband for all guests who — by spending $10 — could drink tap beer all evening during the event. The bar was packed Friday night as dart leagues performed and pool tables stayed busy. The Beer Bust also included all-you-can-eat Sloppy Joes sandwiches and chips.

The mural will be painted by 23-year-old Allison Hunsley of St. Michael/Albertville who is best known for her floral mural on the Clarence McCarty’s building in Monticello and the “cogwheel” on the Rustech Brewing building, also in Monticello. Her first mural occured in 2018 on the Second Hand Rose Antiques building in Buffalo.

Hunsley was commissioned to come up with a scene that integrates Big Lake’s past with the present and the future and many of the images in the original draft are easily recognizable images such as a train car, the sunflower field, the local Holiday Gas Station and many others. Hunsley is expected to begin the mural in the very near future.
