Filings closed for elected offices Tuesday, and there will be at least one new elected official in Sherburne County in 2019.
Incumbent County Commissioner Ewald Petersen (Dist. 2) has decided not to run for re-election. Petersen has served on the board since 2007 after serving 16 years as a Big Lake Twp. supervisor.
Looking to fill that spot are Big Lake Mayor Raeanne Danielowski, John Donovan and Paul Seefeld. All three are from Big Lake.
Commissioner Felix Schmiesing (Dist. 4) is running unopposed. He started on the board in 2003.
All four county elected positions are also up for election in November.
Sheriff Joel Brott is running unopposed. So are County Attorney Kathleen Heaney and Recorder Michelle Ashe.
Auditor/Treasurer Diane Arnold is in the only contested race - against Chris Van Hofwegen from Big Lake.
In other local races, Judge Mary Yunker is running unopposed for Judge in Dist. 10 Court 33.
Kerry Saxton has filed for Soil & Water Supervisor Dist. 2. Jason Selvog has filed for Soil & Water Supervisor Dist. 4. Both are running unopposed.
