Why Becker Public Schools is pursuing a referendum on May 11

At Becker Public Schools, we’ve been fortunate to keep our youngest Bulldogs in our buildings during the pandemic. However, it’s our goal for students of all ages to be able to learn and grow within our walls. We’ve overcome many obstacles this year and continue to keep the health and safety of our students and staff a top priority.

No matter the obstacles we will face in the future, our District is committed to providing learning environments that best prepare our students for their future. And the pandemic has made one thing very clear: schools are the best places for our students to learn.

That’s why on Tuesday, May 11, Becker Public Schools residents will decide whether to invest $37.5 million into our facilities for a $0 net tax increase above the current tax rate. If approved, this plan will provide updates and improvements across all District buildings and address needs such as capacity, safety and security, deferred maintenance, and enhanced spaces to meet today’s educational needs.

Throughout this process, community input has played a critical role as we’ve worked to identify our needs for the past several years. Beyond the pandemic, our facility and educational needs remain. Available project labor, low-interest rates, and a competitive construction economy will help to further honor the investment of our community members. If approved, District residents would see a $0 net tax increase above the current tax rate - a significant investment for generations of Bulldogs to come.

Early voting begins March 26 and continues through May 10 via absentee ballot, which can be requested on our dedicated referendum website - https://www.bulldogsstrong.com/vote
