The Sherburne County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on May 16, 2016 at 6:30 p.m., at the Sherburne History Center, 10775 27th Avenue SE, Becker, Minnesota. The purpose of the hearing is to consider public input on a Petition submitted to the County for the creation of a Lake Improvement District for Rush, Briggs and Julia Lakes.
The proposed boundaries of the Lake Improvement District are parcels with lake frontage on Rush Lake, Briggs Lake and Lake Julia, and the bayou extending from Briggs Lake. The proposed purposes, programs, and funding for the district are outlined in the Petition to Form a Lake Improvement District, a copy of which is available for public review at the Office of the Sherburne County Auditor, at the Sherburne County Government Center. The establishment of the proposed Lake Improvement District requires review by the Commissioner of Natural Resources and the approval of the Sherburne County Board. Concerned citizens may submit evidence at the public hearing, or send written comments to the County Auditor prior to the hearing. This hearing is being held prior to the passage of any order establishing the proposed Lake Improvement District. Concerned citizens may also submit evidence and opinions to the Commissioner of Natural Resources.
Citizens may call for a referendum on the question of whether or not to establish a lake improvement district by filing a petition requesting such a referendum. The petition shall be signed by 26% of the property owners within the territory of the proposed district. Upon receipt of such a petition prior to the effective date of creation of the district, the County Board will issue an order staying the establishment of the district pending a referendum vote of all qualified voters residing within the boundaries of the proposed district.
