SUMMARY PUBLICATION OF

ORDINANCE NO. 1150

MAILBOX POST INSTALLATION

On the22nd day of September,2021, the Big Lake Township Board of Supervisors, Sherburne County, Minnesota, adopted ORDINANCE 1150 as it related to the installation and replacement of mailboxes and mailbox supports, in the Town of Big Lake.

  1. Any person installing or replacing a mailbox and post shall place such at a vertical height of 42-48 inches above street level to the bottom edge of the mailbox and at a horizontal length of 36 inches from the curb or edge of road to the vertical post. The box opening shall be within six-inches (6”) from the edge of the pavement.
  1. A mailbox installation or support must meet Federal and State regulations for breakaway standards. Mailbox post must meet the design, as depicted in EXHIBIT A.
  1. No mailbox shall be placed in a cul-de-sac. Rather mailboxes will be placed before or after the entrance of a cul-de-sac.
  1. The installer is responsible for calling for utility locates (Gopher One -Call 811) prior to digging or installation of post.
  1. Refrain from planting flowers or shrubs, on or around the base of the mailbox post. Do not place newspaper boxes under the mailbox, rather install them along the side the of mailbox.
