I’d like to know who is the idiot savant(s) responsible for Clearwater’s bike lanes? I’ve seen some dumb decisions in this town, maybe even participated in a few, but this one stands alone in its sheer stupidity. Somebody, or maybe a group of somebodies, needs to be either re-educated or replaced.
Currently, every homeowner on the east side of Main Street breaks the law by parking in front of their own house. As does every driver going downhill on Ash Street who crosses the double line rather than crash into an illegally parked vehicle. Not to mention drivers who swerve to prevent overhanging branches from beating the crap out of their high-profile vehicles.
Other than potentially causing crashes and making criminals out of homeowners and drivers, what will these bike lanes accomplish? I wasn’t aware there was a problem with bicycles, nor are bicycles even legally required to use the bike lanes. Stupid with a capital “S”.
On a related topic, if the city wants to finally eliminate the dangerous illegal truck parking on Smith Street before someone gets seriously injured or killed, the answer is simple: start writing tickets! When truckers need to begin explaining tickets to their bosses, I predict the problem will end very quickly.
