To The Editor

April is the month for our nation to pause and thank all those who choose to serve in some way as a volunteer. Since 1974 we’ve officially taken this pause to acknowledge the effort each person who volunteers puts into the world to create a positive force, no matter how small. Added together, these efforts magnify into something great! In 1989, President George H.W. Bush described this amplification of effort by volunteers as a “thousand points of ligh.”

Think about that imagery…each little point of light - each effort by a volunteer - shining it’s brightest. Add one point of light to another until there are a thousand! Now we’ve really got something!

The 31 member organizations of the local Volunteer Bridge applaud each point of light - each moment of time offered to make the world brighter. Small or large, the contribution makes the light brighter! Thank you, volunteers!

We also wish to thank this newspaper for consistently shining its own points of light to promote the need for volunteers throughout the year in space offered under The Volunteer Bridge logo. Watch for that list on the pages of this newspaper to find out how you can add another point of light to the brightness of volunteering in our community!
