To The Editor

I read with interest the article regarding the presentation by John Phelan regarding the Minnesota Economy.

First, the author should have identified John as an Economist associated with the Center for the American Experiment, a conservative Minnesota think tank.

Second, John should have shown the number of “high paying” jobs leaving Minnesota due to corporate acquisitions (TCF acquiring Wells Fargo, the acquisition of Arctic Cat, etc.) instead of saying that jobs are moving due to high taxes. If you look at the the state migration, it’s to states like California (even higher taxes), Washington (lower taxes; but a much higher cost of living).

I spent 36 years in corporate America, and lived in one of those “low tax states” (Texas, where my utility bills and my property taxes far exceeded the cost to live in Minnesota). Let’s be honest and open here when running an article on the Minnesota economy.
