To The Editor

The beautiful thing about a democracy such as ours is that the people have a right to voice opposition when they feel that there is something not being done to represent the people by those who were elected to represent them.

One of the ways for voicing concerns is by the way of a petition. This is a common method used by the people in a true democracy to have some sort of action taken when the elected body is unable to really come to a decision to move forward on an item or makes what they feel is a wrong decision.

So it begs the question, why would an elected member of the Becker City Council question those who bring forth a petition to the city in an editorial last week? Why wouldn't that person embrace the answers that the people are seeking for whom they represent (and possibly break away from "segments" of Becker that they have grown accustomed to)?
It is amazing that this representative now has a financial concern for the citizens of Becker for the cost of a possible state audit but has not shown any real concerns when it comes to the ongoing wasteful spending that still takes place with the Pebble Creek Golf course year after year. A true representative of the people makes sure they listen to all aspects of the communities needs and not publicly condemn those who have real concerns.

Our hope, and the hope of all that live in this community of Becker, is to move forward in a direction that is best for those who live, work and want to see this city prosper.

We as citizens should not tolerate those who feel the need to hinder this fundamental democratic right and start to publicly push them to have real focus on doing their job of representing all members of our community (what they were elected to do in the first place).
