To The Editor

Last week’s editorial pertaining to the hiring practices at the golf course brings into question the decision by the golf director and the city to eliminate the mechanics position just over a month ago.

I am curious to know what the new superintendent's job description will be in comparison to the individual(s) he is replacing and how much he will be paid compared to those that have performed these jobs since these changes have been made?

Is this individual’s compensation reflective of his actual education and experience versus these other individual's? Does this individual, if Mr. DeGrio's information is correct, really only have 4+ years experience instead of the 10 years the golf manager claimed he has?

Why would you overstate an individuals credentials? Haven't we had a taste of that already?

If you have two individual's already employed by the golf course that not only possess similar education but more experience why wouldn't you promote from within? Promoting from within provides continuity and shows a commitment and confidence in your employees and their abilities.

It also shows them that you respect what they do and what they have to offer and they often times already have a clear understanding of the operations and goals you are trying to achieve. My experience has been that they also tend to be the most loyal employees.

I have been critical of the golf course and management but I have to relent that the golf course is not our problem. Thank You.
