To The Editor

There is a lack of public transportation for citizens in Lynden Township and part of St Augusta Township.

For those of us who may not have their own means of transportation, there is no inexpensive means to get to any town in the area.

Neither TriCap nor St Cloud Metro Transport service extends into Lynden Township. Even tho' I only live three miles from Clearwater, there is no public transportation available to town. I live alone but do drive. However, if I had a medical condition which would preclude driving myself...it costs over fifty dollars round trip to hire a taxi to get to a St Cloud medical clinic.

There are public transport available to citizens ranging from Melrose, east to St. Cloud, along the Hwy. 10 corridor in Sherburne County, and in Wright-Carver-Meeker Counties. But there is a total lack in Lynden Township, just a few of miles from St Cloud and Clearwater.

When I raised this issue with Stearns County officials, I was effectively told: "if you don't like the lack of transport...sell your home and move  into St. Cloud".  Yet, outside Lynden Township, public transporation is available. For citizens who don't or are not allowed to drive and who do not have a convenient neighbor or relative to drive them, the lack of public transportation can be troublesome and/or expensive.
