To The Editor

The staff writer’s letter last week goes to show you that you can say just about anything if you wrap yourself in a flag. First, the writer has to put down Colin Kaepernick’s abilities for half the letter, just so he doesn’t have to call for his firing for his beliefs.

Second, he thinks Kaepernick has no rights because he makes good money for one day’s work. When Muhammed Ali was so hated for being a conscientious objector to the Vietnam war, it didn’t seem to stem the hatred for him by taking away his livelihood. He said, “and shoot them for what, they never called me a n****r, they never lynched me.” What he was saying was way worst then anything Kaepernick has said and after Ali’s death, he was one of the most beloved people in the world.

I’d like to reference the 9th commandment: “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” From the book of Matthew: “Do not judge others, so that God will not judge you. Why then, do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the log in your own eye! You hypocrite!”

Do I agree with Colin Kaepernick? Not entirely. I’m a proud American who stands with his hand on his heart when the National Anthem is played just like my children but I’m also a proud American to live in a country where you can express your beliefs.
