This week, we were on the ground in Minnesota to attend Farm Fest and celebrate federal infrastructure investments in the Sixth Congressional District.
On Thursday, we participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for the U.S. Hwy. 212 Rural Freight and Mobility Project. Hwy. 212 is an important piece of our state’s infrastructure. More than 1,300 freight trucks use this section of roadway every day to transport Minnesota products from our state to the Dakotas and beyond.
The U.S. Hwy. 212 Rural Freight and Mobility Project will transform this two-lane undivided highway, which has seen many serious and fatal car crashes over the years, into a four-lane divided expressway. Our office worked hard to secure $6.5 million in federal transportation infrastructure funding for this project and we are looking forward to seeing its completion.
Minnesota’s farmers don’t just feed our state, they feed the world. Earlier in the week, we had the chance to attend one of my favorite events in Minnesota, Farm Fest. While there, we met with farmers, agriculture leaders, and the advocacy groups that support Minnesota’s agriculture industry. We discussed the importance of supporting family farmers, the status of the Farm Bill, and the need to ensure Minnesota farmers have the resources and support to continue producing the products we rely on.
We also visited the site of the Hwy. 5 Mobility Project. During our visit, we met with Victoria Mayor Deb McMillan and Members of the Carver County Board of Commissioners to discuss the project which will address a portion of Hwy. 5 in Chanhassen and Victoria that is plagued with congestion, and severe and fatal crashes. We were proud to secure $7 million in federal infrastructure funding for this project during the 2024 appropriations process and look forward to continuing to work with our local partners to ensure its completion.
Bringing federal transportation infrastructure funding back to Minnesota is one of our most important jobs. Minnesotans pay federal taxes, and we believe those taxes should be used to benefit Minnesotans.
Our office will continue to fight for federal funding for transportation projects that enable Minnesotans to get to work, school, and appointments safely and on time.
