No Surprise

I rarely comment about politics publicly because whenever I do, people who disagree with me feel the need to tell me why I’m wrong. Somewhere along the line, it became not okay to have differing viewpoints.

However, I feel the need to comment on the now two assassination attempts on President Donald Trump’s life. The question isn’t why they happened. The question is, why isn’t it happening more often?

Not a day has gone by in over four years that the left, especially the media, hasn’t viciously attacked Trump. Stating over and over that he’s a threat to democracy and comparing him to Hitler. If you constantly demonize someone day after day what do you think is going to happen?

Instead of pumping up the crowd with party positivity during their August Democratic convention, speakers brought up Trump 147 times on the first night alone. Instead of informing voters about what they’re running for, it was all about who they’re running against. Fear-mongering at its best.

Do you remember when political ads told the public what the candidate stood for instead of attacking their opponent? It was a long time ago.

I’m sickened by what I see on social media, especially the wishes that the gunman hadn’t missed. No matter how you feel about Trump, he’s a human being. He has a right to life. He has a family that loves him.

It’s gone too far. It’s unacceptable and morally reprehensible. It’s way past time to put a stop to it.

If you don’t like Trump’s platform then don’t vote for him. It’s as simple as that.

It’s time for the media, in particular, to turn down the rhetoric, stop attacking, stop censoring, and report the truth. The real, unbiased truth, which is what the media is supposed to do.

Donald Trump is not an existential threat to our country. Did everyone forget he was already president for four years? During that time, he didn’t destroy democracy, he didn’t take away everyone’s rights, he didn’t start WWIII, and he left office at the end of his term.

Why does anyone actually believe things will be different this time around?

The problem is on both sides of the divide. We’re not left or right, we’re Americans, and it’s time we started acting like it. Wake up America, we’re better than this.
