Lifetime area resident Don Iten was honored Saturday, May 1st with a Celebration Of Life at Clearwater Legion. Clear Lake-Clearwater Legion members and Honor Guard were on hand for the celebration of Iten’s life.
Don Iten was born on Oct. 28, 1943 to Leon & Florentine (Imholte) Iten in his family home in Clearwater. Don lived his earlier life in Clearwater farming with his father and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. Don met the love of his life, Carole Sutton, while he was stationed in California. The two married on Oct.19, 1963.
The couple made their home in Becker. The highlight of their life together was the birth of their three children, Raymond, Lori, and Liza. I went to school with Don’s children. We lived just a few miles from the Iten’s and they were a part of our circle growing up.
Don would say he considered himself a farmer first and foremost, but had many other trades in his life. He worked as a Truck Driver and Mechanic. He could fix almost anything. Carole shared “Don was one of the most intelligent people I knew because no matter what you asked him, he always had an answer!”
After the memorial service, the group went to the Mark Imholte Farm near Clear Lake for a military salute by the Clear Lake-Clearwater Legion Honor Guard.
Becker Legion Commander John Riebel and Becker Legion Chaplain Tim Hinds were on hand for the tribute.
Clear Lake-Clearwater Honor Guard/Firing Squad provided a military salute complete with bugle.
Iten will be missed.
