TO THE EDITOR:
Regarding the letter of June 19 about Jim Newberger’s Town Hall meeting. I disagree with the reader. I was at that meeting and several topics of vital interest to Becker was discussed. Rep. Mekeland and Sen. Mathews gave updates on several things. One of these was what Xcel plans to do about replacing Sherco. As far as I know, no final decision has been made but if they decided not to replace Sherco it would be a disaster for Becker. There are no “two sides” to that. I realize that producing electricity is not ideal for the environment but I, for one, like having lights at night and heat in winter. So far as Mekleand and Mathews are concerned, they did not give biased or distorted information. They gave the facts as clearly as possible. Both these men do an outstanding job for us. In fact, they probably do more before breakfast than most people do in a lifetime. As for Jim Newberger, when he was our representative, he did an excellent job. Now that he isn’t, he still serves our area with a dedication few of us could match.

In last week’s LTE from the Cox family, one important family member was inadvertantly missed in the salutation, which should have read, “All our Love - Russell Cox, Liz Garvais Cox, Macoy (Nicole) Cox, Jena (Kent) Backes, Casey (Kyle) Kosloske, Riley (Sam) Tschida, and Logan Cox.”
