Letters To The Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

Next Tues., Feb. 4, Minnesota voters have an opportunity to actively participate in the most basic exercise of democratic governance, the precinct caucus.

If you’ve never been to a caucus before, don’t let the word “caucus” intimidate you.  Think of the caucus as a neighborhood meeting of like-minded people.  It is entirely run by party volunteers (conveners) who are supplied with detailed agendas. All you have to bring is your opinion.
To find your precinct caucus location, go to:  http://caucusfinder.sos.state.mn.us

There were errors in last weeks’ Citizen article mentioning the DFL’s caucus locations. These are the correct locations:

Orrock township and Big Lake township-precinct 4, will meet at Big Lake Middle School.

Becker City, Becker township, Clear Lake City, Sanitago township, Palmer township will be at Becker High School.  (Commons, Door 11, next to high school office)

Clearwater City, Clearwater township will meet at the Clearwater Township Hall - 15015 Highway 24.

Caucuses start at 7 p.m.  I hope to see you there.
Jim Huhtala
DFL Chair,
Senate District 15,
Clear Lake, MN.

(EDITORS NOTE: Information reported by the Citizen relative to the above two princincts came from the Minnesota Secretary of State office.)

TO THE EDITOR:

The members of the Becker Fire Relief Association wants to extend a big thank you to all of the local surrounding businesses who purchased an ad for our 2014 calendar. We realize these business owners are constantly being asked to support local groups and can’t say, “yes,” to everyone.

We deeply appreciate these businesses in recognizing our fundraising effort.

This is our second time doing a calendar for the purposes of fundraising. Our previous fundraising was through our annual dance which we no longer do because of rising expenses associated with putting on the dance.

The Becker Fire Relief Association is a retirement fund set aside only for those in our community that have given a minimum of 10 years of service on the Becker Fire Dept. A member is vested 60% after 10 years and 100% vested after 20 years. This fund is a way to give back to those who are members and have served on the fire department. Contributions to the fund come from the State of Minnesota’s 2% tax on insurance, local municipal donations and fundraising.

If you did not receive a calendar with the Citizen newspaper, please call Charles DeGrio at 763-438-1945.
