I am writing this letter in response to a recent letter to the editor concerning the Becker teacher’s contract, which I believe was totally uncalled for. Not only was this letter misleading, it was a horrible insult to the teaching profession.
Beginning with superficial support of Becker teachers this letter went on to do nothing but insinuate that Becker teachers are a drain on the community and are asking for a contract that would put our district in financial distress.
Instead of telling the truth and regarding teachers as professionals- who just want a fair contract- this letter put forth misleading information and reduced Becker teachers to a comparative figure-instead of hard working, caring individuals.
The teachers of the Becker School district deserve to be appreciated and respected-- and not just in empty words-- but through action and support.
Sadly, I tend to compare my job in Becker to my adjunct job at St. Cloud State.
Even though my time with the SCSU history department has been minimal- I feel more valued and respected by my superiors and colleagues in this job than I currently do in a job I have dedicated 21 years of my life to.
