Letters To The Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

This comment responds to the article, “Brott miffed at Boelter for statements” in the July 5, 2025 edition of the Patriot. I experienced  a similar experience as Vance Boelter as a patient in a major hospital. My street clothes and shoes were replaced with an uncomfortable and degrading uniform. I was not allowed to leave the hospital grounds. I was kept in a lighted room and awakened in the night by a nurse to take vitals that were unnecessary. I had no access to exercise equipment. I had no access to fresh air or vitamin D-generating sunlight. A recent issue of Scientific American stated that the four items for healthy aging are diet, exercise, sleep and social connections. This is evidence that a good sleep requires a cool, dark and quiet room. There is technology for observing people in dark rooms. I was surprised that Sheriff Brott addressed the character of Mr. Boelter as much as the issues Mr. Boelter brought up.
