Letters To The Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

The 2024 Legislature officially adjourned last Sunday night. It remains my honor to represent our community in the Minnesota Senate. The Legislature comprises 104 Democrats (51.7%) and 97 Republicans (48.3%). Despite this near-even split, Democrats shut out and ignored the 48% of Minnesotans who elected Republicans. Over the past two years, they used their slim majority to push extreme, partisan legislation, relying on a senator charged with felony burglary for their crucial 34th vote. Hardworking families continue to struggle with high costs of gas, groceries, housing, childcare, insurance, and more. Instead of addressing these issues, Democrats passed laws eroding women’s rights, reducing children’s academic opportunities, squandering an $18 billion surplus, and raising taxes and fees. As the constitutional midnight deadline approached last Sunday, Democrats crammed their remaining extreme agenda into a massive 1,400-page bill, blatantly violating legislative rules, preventing debate, and forcing votes without giving time to read the bills. This abandonment of transparency and due process shocked members, staff, journalists, and even one former Democrat Senate leader. I am undeterred, however. I will continue working hard to advance truth, integrity, and preserve the future of our great Republic!
