Parents and activist educators apparently agree the way in which a child is “trained” lasts a lifetime. For Christian parents the foundation is Proverbs 22:6. In many government-run schools, it is the “transforming-culture” ideology (aka: CRT/DEI/SEL) that runs counter to traditional family values rather than adhering to an academic curriculum. Discipline/disruptions; respect/rebellion; punctuality/tardiness; accountability/entitlements. Teachers, administrators, and other students keep secrets about gender dysphoria from parents. Wrongly, sadly, many parents assume that schools are as they were a generation ago. Many are not. Objective learning has been replaced by subjective themes focusing on systemic racism and social justice. Students do not learn critical thinking skills; they must champion social outcomes. It is no surprise that test scores are at a 30-year low in MN. Teachers who still want to teach academic materials to children are becoming anonymous whistleblowers out of fear of losing their jobs, being bullied, facing administrative reprimands, etc. Dissent is not tolerated. Inform yourself of the school board candidates’ stands on curriculum and discipline and vote—but information gathering starts a year in advance.
