Letters To The Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

A big thanks to all students (and adults) who made Becker Theatre Departments’ presentation of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast possible. The singing, music (our very talented Pit Orchestra), and storytelling was truly breathtaking.  The sets, directing, choreography, stage management (Tech Crew), and hours of rehearsals made it all look and sound not just amazing, but once again surpassing in quality that of any production out there. The students’ mesmerizing performances delighted the audience so much that attendance numbers grew with each performance. It eventually resulted in a new attendance record for our fall musical. In sharing this, I really wish they were doing another couple of shows so that those who missed this fantastic production could come and see it for themselves. To the cast and crew let me simply say, “You were all fantastic and wonderful team players!” Also, a big thanks to Becker and the Clear Lake Lions, as well as our many others sponsors, in their helping to make this production such a great success. Next up - Set your calendars for the middle school’s production of Newsies, Feb 18th - 20th.

TO THE EDITOR:

It was late afternoon Thanksgiving Day. Darkness had settled in. My husband and I were driving home from Princeton when a large buck flew out of the darkness, our car hitting his back side and damaging the car’s right front side. As we watched traffic speed by and I was wondering why God hadn’t protected us as I had asked, a man appeared at my window. He asked if we were okay, then offered to stay with us until the tow truck arrived and we were taken care of. He said his name was Colten. When asked about the deer, he refused it. But my husband talked him into taking it if it was salvageable. After checking it, Colten determined it was a nine-point buck with a broken leg and began the process for claiming it. When the tow truck arrived, the driver said he could take us home, but it would cost approximately $250. Colten heard the conversation and insisted on driving us home. Earlier on, we were surprised to learn he was 18, and we wondered why, of all the traffic speeding by, it took a teenager with proper upbringing to be a good Samaritan and stop. And yes, God was protecting us.

TO THE EDITOR:

Does Sherburne County really think that we’re simpleton enough to not read through their tax increases? “Most tax rates lower in 2023” (Patriot, 11/26/22) is an absolute distraction to a giant tax increase in the county. It’s easy, they overinflate property values as a feel good so they can jack up taxes but say the tax rate is lower as the headline. They hope that we’re as gullible as those who drove around solo for two years with a .99 cent mask on.  You pay TAXES, not tax rates - period. Anyone who tries to spin this tax spike narrative epitomizes what is wrong with the state of MN - they lead with deceit and then use the state run media to spin it positive.  Despicable at best - but it’s local government in a gluttonous Tim Walz and DFL run MN, it’s to be expected.
