Letters To The Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

Tom Emmer 6th Congressional district congressional representative, MN was elected with high hopes to represent his fairly conservative district but has failed in many respects.

AJ Kern challenged Emmer in 2016 and he recorded the weakest MN GOP US House primary win in 50 years. Dr. Eric Ostermeier, “No incumbent MN republican US House member has won less than 80% of the primary vote since 1962.”

Numbers don’t lie. His approval numbers remain very weak and with good reasons.

AJ is again challenging Tom Emmer because he is still not representing the majority of his district and the voters deserve an opportunity to vote in someone more akin to their values.

Many think that his close ties as co-sponsor of the Somali caucus with Keith Ellison (alias Hakin Muhammad) might have something to do with that.

Simply said there is worry in the 6th district. Worry about jobs, our schools, eroding of our tax base, aging of our population, cost to care for our Veterans, public safety and our Second Amendment rights being preserved.

AJ Kern is a principled, constitutional, conservative…(BS Political Science, Masters land use planning, business owner, Army reserve veteran, married 31 years and Mother of two grown daughters). She will work hard to represent you. Vote AJ Kern for congress primary August 14.

Karen Ament,
St. Cloud, MN.

TO THE EDITOR:

On behalf of the Becker Parks and Recreation Department, Becker Community Center and Freedom Days Planning Team, I want to thank everyone involved in making the 2018 Freedom Days a huge success.  It takes a lot of dedicated, enthusiastic people to make a large community event like this come together; thankfully, in Becker we have that.  Due to the work and commitment of so many people, Freedom Days was a fun and successful family event for our community.

Activities during the week included the 3rd Annual Open Streets- “Let’s Create!” program, made possible through the collaboration of the City of Becker, Sherburne County Statewide Health Improvement Program, Becker McDonald’s, the Becker PTSA, and Friends of Sherburne NWR; our annual Medallion Hunt; 3rd Annual Freedom Days Disc Golf Tournament at City Park; Sherburne History Center Ice Cream Social; Sherburne State Bank Picnic Open House; and the extremely popular BCC Kiddie Parade, and more.

Open Streets this year also saw the unveiling of an addition to the BCC pool mural. This mural was painted by Dan Mondloch and was made possible thanks to donors Charles & Shirley Heineman in remembrance of Tamara Heineman Aszmann, Bev & Glenn Anderson, and a grant from the Central Minnesota Arts Board. Pizza Depot sold pizza by the slice, there were art make/take projects, CentraCare Health $3 helmet sale, Scavenger Hunt with prizes, and a Bike drawing. Also, the BASC, SHIP, Sherburne NWR, and Becker Spine & Sport had booths at the event. Even with the rain bringing the activities indoors, a great crowd showed up to enjoy the fun.

Saturday’s grand day activities began with more than 170 walkers and runners of all ages participating in the 5K and Kids Fun Run events, followed by the annual parade led by the American Legion Color Guard. The Freedom Days Carnival followed with great food, fun and entertainment that led into the evening festivities, featuring the amazing Dean-o-mite interactive DJ, Becker Dazzlers, Starz Dance, Twin Cities Dance Band-The Fugitives, and the ever-popular band Outside Recess.  The night was capped off by spectacular fireworks.

Popular activities, events and demonstrations this year included the amazing Launch Pad, Henna Tattoos, incredible inflatables, the Becker Marching Band, as well as bands from Milaca, Sartell and Sauk Rapids, a wide variety of delicious carnival food fare, and many community booths. The success of an event as large and expansive as Freedom Days 2018 could not be possible without a tremendous network of dedicated staff, sponsors and volunteers - a special thanks to our fantastic BCC Leadership Team: Cindy Kazeck, Keri Schulte, Amanda Pommerening, Tracey Otto, Chelsea Swiggum, Julie Krenz, Julie Baloun, Mick Hennessey, and Ken Burgess.
