TO THE EDITOR:
Citizens of Becker, are you aware that your City Council is considering spending approximately 13 Million Dollars of your tax money? A study of future space needs was commissioned by the city last year. The consulting firm recommendations were as follows:
1.1 million dollars building an addition for new council chambers and and office space for city employees.
1.3 million dollars for building addition to Police Department office space and evidence storage.
3.0 million dollars for the Golf Course for additional banquet space and renovation of the basement.
7 million dollars for a new Public Works / Streets and Grounds building.
The consulting firm also stated that if these projects were not done in 2017 to add 4% for inflation for each additional year it is not accomplished.
Council Members were given another briefing on the advantages of bonding, accessing or levying for these projects. 
Where will this money come from? Ultimately You the taxpayer/voters. Whatever the method they use it will come from us the taxpayer. Consider these proposals when going to the polls this November. Do you want to continue with these extravagant expenses? 
We need to elect new life into our Council.
We need new members that have no personal agenda that serve all residents and taxpayers.

TO THE EDITOR:
A 29th Letter to America. America has come a long way from July 4, 1776, when it declared its independence from Great Britain, and said in its declaration, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Many paid a great price to obtain independence from the then powerful Empire of Great Britain. Nine of the 56 signers of the Declaration “died from wounds, or hardships of The Revolutionary War of Independence.” 
Since that war, hundreds of thousands more have died to preserve this great country and its principles. 
Unfortunately, too many have forgotten what those principles were. 
To many, “these truths” are not so “self-evident” any more. Instead of, “that all men are created equal” they divide us into different races and groups. But there is only one Human Race, and it started with Adam and Eve. When they divide, they are actually saying we are not equal to them. Those are the real racists.

TO THE EDITOR:
The Obama era marked a dark time for anyone who worked in the coal and mining business. However, since President Trump has taken office and put forward an all-inclusive, affordable energy model, we can see benefits across the country, including right here at our own Sherco energy plant. It employs more than 800 people, so it is a relief the Obama administration is no longer able to jeopardize the security of energy jobs in our community. Credit is also due to Congressman Tom Emmer. I am happy he is working with the President on putting forward policies that don’t require millions of Americans to lose their jobs. It was encouraging to watch Rep. Emmer and President Trump side by side in Duluth as Trump touted the immense number of jobs he has created by moving away from a “this or that” mentality when it comes to unleashing our nation’s full energy potential.
Progressives like to claim that Republicans are anti-clean energy but in reality, we know that no city in America could ever be powered by solar panels or wind turbines alone.
