Letters To The Editor

TO THE EDITOR:
I’m a student at Becker High School and will be a senior this school year as well as turning 18 making me, and many of my classmates, eligible to vote in the November Midterm Election. I started following the political world during the 2012 election and since then I have become very interested in politics.
This past February I participated in the GOP caucus night, I spent my spring break in St. Paul as a member of the MN House of Representatives High School Page Program.
I also job shadowed my local Rep. Jim Newberger as part of a school project. The work he does for us is not as easy as people think it is and after seeing what he does, how he works, and how he interacts with people, I think our State Representative Jim Newberger would be an excellent senator for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Amy Klobuchar.
This November I know who I’m voting for and I encourage readers to vote for: Jeff Johnson/Donna Bergstrom for Governor/Lt. Governor, Doug Wardlow for Attorney General, Jim Newberger for MN’s 1st Senate Seat, Karin Housley for MN’s 2nd Senate Seat, Tom Emmer for Congress, Shane Mekeland for House District 15B.

TO THE EDITOR:
Amidst all the bluster in the news you may have missed an important healthcare-related story. A recent healthcare cost study was commissioned by the Koch Brothers to support our current insurance-based system. Instead, it demonstrated that over ten years, more than 2 trillion dollars could be saved by adopting a “Medicare For All” plan. This means a universal health care system could cover everyone - including the 60 million people currently uninsured or underinsured - at little or no additional cost!
Throughout that time we have provided every single legislator and their families with healthcare. Isn’t it time to demand the same for ourselves and our families?
This is an outrage. This study shows that we know how to fix it. Jessica Filiaggi, a DFL candidate for 15-B supports universal single payer health care. Please join me in voting for Jess on primary day, August. 14. Your vote is your voice. Speak up. Don’t continue to support legislators that don’t support you.

TO THE EDITOR:
In 2016, Bernie Sanders inspired many people to get involved in the political process and the DFL party for the first time.
Many were young and passionate for change, wanting to tackle the climate crisis, income inequality, health care, mass incarceration, out-of-control college debt and the myriad other social injustices brought on by the hijacking of our democracy by corporate interests and dark money.
Some became disillusioned after Bernie didn’t get nominated, but many continue -- working hard to make America great for everyone. They give me hope during these very troubling times. I am particularly inspired by Jessica Filiaggi, a candidate for the 15B House seat.
A tireless young mother of pre-teens, Jess became a state and national delegate for Bernie and since then has served on local, congressional and state DFL boards (Jessica is currently on temporary leave from her DFL board work to run for this seat). We need Jessica at the State Legislature. But first we need to make sure she wins the primary. Please vote for Jessica (“Say yes to Jess”) Aug. 14.

TO THE EDITOR:
The primary is Tuesday Aug. 14 and we in District 15B have a great opportunity to elect Jessica Filiaggi to the House. After meeting this candidate in person, I want to tell everyone I know that she would be an asset to represent our neck of the woods.
She is a mother of three, a financial analyst, and has her feet solid on the ground. With her diverse background she is well suited to deal with the issues facing us and will do it with respect and humility.
We need Jessica Filiaggi to work for us. Please vote Aug. 14.

TO THE EDITOR:
As a former DFL Legislator in the Minnesota House, I understand what it takes to be a good representative for the people in this area of the state.  That is why I am supporting Jessica Filiaggi as our next Representative for 15B on Primary Day, August 14.
It is a rare occasion that I come out in support of a specific candidate; however, I am excited that someone with Jessica’s competence and commitment has decided to throw her hat in the ring.
Jessica has a passion for service and the background, experience and positions on issues that make her the best candidate for the job. Jess has worked as an auditor, financial crime investigator, licensed insurance agent, and debt counselor.  She is a financial planner with a keen understanding on how best to invest resources and balance budgets.
Don’t you agree that our political system needs more people with these skills?
Jessica is the real deal. That is why she will get my vote. Please join me and say “Yes to Jess” on primary election day, August 14.

TO THE EDITOR:
We wanted to take a few minutes tonight to say thank you to the host of people who helped make the Community Concert at the Creek a successful event.  There were many hands that touched the event and each one played a crucial role.  We had volunteers from the Becker Football Team, Women’s Club, Men’s Club, Season Pass holders, friends and family, many of the local businesses and our vendors supported us through the sponsorship of goods, services, and cash donations.  The staff stepped up and worked long hours during setup and execution of this event.
Thanks to Outside Recess and the GB Leighton Band for providing the entertainment. Both were outstanding and are true professionals at what they do.
Whether you’re working with individuals, businesses, or vendors, if you have a relationship with them and they understand the end goal, they will likely pitch in where they can to assist in achieving that goal.  It gives us great hope for the future of the City of Becker and all the businesses and residents who call it home.
