Letters To The Editor

TO THE EDITOR:
I have received many "thank you notes" for our very successful NITE TO UNITE (National Nite Out) event in Santiago in August. While I appreciate the thoughts, I must tell you that no one person can organize that large an event. Nor can one person organize meetings with law enforcement, organize neighborhood watch groups, Nextdoor.com sight, etc. It takes a community effort to keep our area safe and protect one another from any harm. And, our community has stepped up big time.
Sheriff Brott and his deputies, esp Roxanne Schreder, have helped tremendously for the past two years. Our awesome firefighters are always there to help along with our Lions Club. Other contributors include my husband Dave (who never complains), Kim and Matt Weber, Bailey Ray's Roadhouse, Janet Collins, Goodfellows, Norene and Tim Wilson. Princeton Walmart, Dairy Queen, and McDonalds. Plus all the good cooks who brought food for the pot luck.
Our neighborhood captains have all done their parts throughout the years: Rich Alicksons, Curt Enersons, Dan Warrens, Bobby Kuhlmanns, Jade Eisele, Jack Wiltseys, Richard Harshmanns, Tom Comstocks, and Slim Larsons. (And if I misspelled anyone's name, please pardon me).
This community has a bigger law enforcement presence and we so appreciate that. We communicate with Nextdoor.com and phone lists for those without computers or smart phones. We no longer wait for a crime to happen, but call 911 with any suspicious activity, per Sheriff Brott's request. We welcome new neighbors, and nearby neighbors to join in. Call Roxanne at the Sheriffs office to start your own Neighborhood Watch Group or start your own Nextdoor.com group any time, it's easy and keeps you and your neighbors in the loop, not only about crime, but lost dogs to garage sales, etc. It is a great communication instrument.
Appreciate everyone's efforts. Keep up the good work of protecting each other.
Jan Wambeke,
Santiago Neighborhood Watch Lead
Santiago, MN.

TO THE EDITOR:
We are writing to tell a story about a fishing issue on our lake we were trying to solve and the help we received from Mr. Shane Mekeland, candidate for the Minnesota House from District 15B.
We contacted Mekeland about the issue this summer and he said he would do some research on the issue and get back to us. Several weeks later, Mekeland contacted us with information about contacts we could make to resolve the problem. We followed his advice and contacted the MN State Agency he suggested could help us.
The Minnesota State agency said they could not help. We contacted Mr. Shane Mekeland about this road block.
A short time later, we received a telephone call from the MN State Agency. We set up a program with the agency.
This program could not have happened without the intervention of Candidate Shane Mekeland.
We are, and we hope you will, if you want things done, vote for Mr. Shane Mekeland (candidate for MN State House District 15B).
Mr. & Mrs. Robert E. Clifford, Jr.,
Clear Lake, MN.

TO THE EDITOR:
In last weeks paper there was an article about a RR Quiet Zone in Clear Lake.
Why is it that Clear Lake can get it done and Becker can't? Becker City Council is only interested in one thing...the Golf Course.
We need a city council that cares about all the people living here not just those that like to golf.
Also, they took the fall leaf pickup away. That's something that most all of us need.
It's time for new leadership!
Cory Osgood,
Becker, MN.
