TO THE EDITOR:
I just wanted to commend Shelley Berthiaume on such a wonderfully written article about the love of her special friend. Dogs truly are a gift, and while we are deeply saddened when they move on, after time we are able to look back on how much they made our lives better. Everyone who’s lost the love of a dog, “man’s best friend”, knows the feeling, and, if they’re like me, got a couple tears in their eyes while reminiscing on their True Friend. Beautifully written.

TO THE EDITOR:
Our Founding Fathers at Plymouth Rock tried socialism at the start. After they tried this, they were starving. They next tried capitalism, where people got to keep what they produced. With this method, the people flourished. People need to have an incentive to work. The harder they apply themselves the more they prosper. In the Soviet Union after socialism was failing, they allowed individual garden plots. And garden plots were more productive, and people were able to sell/exchange product because of personal incentive. Why can’t we see that, in the United States? Many people think the government is supposed to provide everything. But where does the government get its money to provide these needs? They get it from the workers that apply themselves and are trying to provide for themselves and their families. Government exists to provide what individuals cannot. Some examples are departments which provide service such as fire protection, police to protect against illegal actions, military to protect against other countries, and highway departments so we can get where we need to go. We need smaller government and fewer regulations to allow free enterprise to grow.
