Letters To The Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

700,000 energy customers in Minnesota want reliable and affordable service.  But the future of such service is in question.  In late June 2021, the Great River Energy company, that provides electricity to more than two dozen electric cooperatives, announced their sale of the Coal Creek Station in North Dakota to another company that will continue operation of the facility. However, as a cooperative, they need to hear from members.  Please visit https://www.reliableenergy4mn.com/ to read and sign the petition.  Then send the petition and your permission for the sale to your cooperative and its directors.  The link also includes that contact information. Closure of the Coal Creek Station would cause energy prices to soar and make the electric grid susceptible to future problems. The new owners plan to install Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) equipment that will capture the carbon dioxide emissions and store them underground. The sale will deliver reliable, affordable, and environmentally sound practices for decades and provide good paying jobs in the community. Work to keep the lights lit in your home and protect the environment.  Click on the link, find your cooperative and sign and forward the petition in support of electrical service.
