Letters To The Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

Just a few comments for Mr. Collier and his anger about the new federal holiday Juneteenth.  The first amendment of the Constitution states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion” yet Christmas day is a federal holiday.  This is a Christian holiday so what about other believers, where is their federal holiday?  They must be working and staying productive.  Mr. Schmidt, this is for you.  Georgia has completed three recounts and even the Secretary of State in Georgia (Republican) claims no widespread voter fraud.  Rudy Giuliani made the claim that dead people have voted in Pennsylvania and according to the Philadelphia Inquirer a Luzerne County man (registered Republican) was charged with felonies after trying to apply for a mail in ballot in his dead mother’s name.  So it does happen but not to the extremes you described.  Where did you get your numbers? The election was eight months ago and your candidate lost, move on and stop getting your facts from the internet!  Also, by activists do you mean individuals willing to tell the truth about America’s genocide of Native Americans?  Real History!

TO THE EDITOR:

A week ago I read an article about how to engage with people who are victims of conspiracy theories. The suggested response? For every hour you spend with someone, spend 50 minutes listening. Sit down, breathe and listen...repeat. It’s easy to read a couple letters to the editor from my elders and get filled with rage. But is yelling at those yelling going to help? I don’t think so...so why are we yelling anyway? The answer might be surprisingly simple: we aren’t listening. In our fight for rightness, we disregard the voices of others. We yell “Listen to me!” without first listening to “them”. If you are a follower of Christ, this is not optional. We must be the first to let our “rights” go for the sake of the other. Now, we’ve been told this is weakness. But if I am to be labeled weak for following Christ, so be it. If listening to others and loving those who dismiss us is weak then let’s be known as a people who are weak, meek and humble. Could it eventually lead to death? Possibly? But since when did the people who believe in Resurrection live afraid of death?
