LETTER TO THE EDITOR

No taxation without representation. Is it still true?

You are paying taxes, doing your part; but is Congress is representing you? With so much money in politics, many of our representatives have become beholden to special interests. We have lost our representation to the Big Money that Congress relies on to win elections.

It wasn’t always this way. In 2010 the Supreme Court made unlimited campaign spending legal, and granted Money the same speech rights as you and me. Citizens United opened the floodgate to the corruption that permeates Washington.

This mistake can be reversed by passing an Amendment to the U. S. Constitution; if Americans demand it. At our state capitol, Republican Senator Scott Jensen has introduced SF4368 calling on Congress to propose such an amendment. This is a start. We need more state legislators to join him.

Call Senator Andrew Mathews at 651.296.8075, and ask him to sign on to SF4368, a resolution that urges Congress to propose an Amendment to the U. S. Constitution to allow governments to regulate political contributions and expenditures; and, in doing so, may distinguish between the free speech rights of natural persons and special interests.

We deserve equal and fair representation.
