TO THE EDITOR:

This may seem boring to some, but I had a veteran ask why we should join the American Legion Post. So I listed a few reasons.

1) It is the largest supporter of veterans

2) You have a few veteran service officers in every county that are willing to help with any questions

3) A board of veterans appeals

4) Veterans education GI bills

5) Ability to volunteer to help other veterans either in the VA nursing homes or hospitals

6) Help with the final respects to fellow veterans either as honor guards, motorcycle escorts, or security

7) Blue Star and Gold Star banners

8) Work on blood donor programs

9) Full accounting of POW & MIA veterans

10) Support American Legion baseball teams

11) Boy’s State

12) Help support our constitutional amendment to protect the US flag from desecration

13) Help with voter registration.

Then I signed Larry up. This was easier than giving him a pamphlet called “Why You Should Join and Belong.” Those attending the next Post 193 meeting will be getting one free, as well as a list of documents available to members. Next meeting is Feb. 9 at the Legion Hall at 7 p.m.
