Letter to Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

Mr. Morgan, you “speculate” about the media reaction when an outsider “turned the tables on the establishment” 2000 years ago.  Jesus certainly was regarded with suspicion and fear that he would disrupt those in power.  But you neglected to draw some important distinctions to today’s “outsider.”  Jesus stood for love, not cruel disregard for others.  He taught us to love the “other,” not label Mexicans and Muslims rapists and murderers or callously separate children from their parents with the stated goal of discouraging their parents from coming here. Jesus is our model of service, integrity, tolerance and compassion.

A local newspaper serves a critical role in providing information about local government and community events.  You have an important role and should concentrate on it.  As to your column, we, as Christians, are deeply dismayed by this travesty.
