Hats Off To Our Fire Fighters!

During the past few weeks, Citizen-Tribune staffers have covered the various Fire Prevention Week open houses hosted by our Clearwater, Clear Lake and Becker fire fighters. Intent of the open houses to have kids and parents experience fun that comes with climbing around on the big trucks.

But fire personnel hope the message that goes along with the fun sticks with their guests.

The message is - as it has been for years - be prepared for a fire at your home. Prepare for at least two escape plans - by day and night.

Then, do it.

So much fire safety is in the prevention of fires, making sure houses are up to electrical codes, getting rid of combustable materials and not playing with fire.

Fire can kill and that is every firefighters’ nightmare.

And do remember fire calls aren’t a scheduled thing. They occur when least expected.

Meanwhile, firefighters who may be enjoying a nice Saturday afternoon BBQ or a night on the town with their families will get the call.

Off they rush, leaving their loved ones to help a family in distress.

Their calls aren’t only for fires, but for medical emergencies and very often, automobile accidents.

They aren’t paid much for their training time and efforts on their respective fire departments.

You can pay them with a much deserved “thank you for your service.”

And we do so here. Thank you for your service.
