Happy Holidays

(Editor’s Note: The following column was submitted by Becker Public Schools.)

The holiday season is a time of celebration, reflection, and spreading joy. At Becker Public School District, we embrace the spirit of giving and come together as a community to create memorable experiences for our students and extend a helping hand to those in need.

Winter Concerts:

One of the highlights of the holiday season in our district is the highly anticipated Winter Concerts. These musical performances showcase the immense talent and dedication of our students in the field of music. The concert dates, times, and locations are as follows:

• Middle School (6-8): Band on December 14, Choir on December 7 in the PAC;

• High School Band & Choir (9-12): December 18 at 7 pm in the PAC;

• Fifth Grade Concert: January 25 and January 26 1:30 PM in the PAC.

At Becker Public School District, our mission is to develop self-directed learners who thrive in a changing global community. Our music education program aligns with this mission, fostering creativity, teamwork, and self-expression among our students. It is through these programs that we see our students grow in confidence, develop a lifelong appreciation for the arts, and experience the joy of performing.

Opportunities to

Support Those in Need:

The holiday season also presents an opportunity for us to support those in need within our community. Becker Public School District encourages everyone to participate in various charitable initiatives, including:

Toys for Tots: The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. There are drop boxes around town for toy collections.

Compassion Connection: A community-based non-profit is actively involved in supporting the community’s most vulnerable children. By partnering with local agencies, they fulfill emergency requests, provide assistance to aged-out youth, and extend their reach beyond the foster community to support families in need. As the holiday season approaches, we encourage everyone to join their efforts and make a positive impact on the lives of children and youth facing significant challenges.

Becker Community Food Shelf: Located inside City Hall. Donations of non-perishable items can be dropped off in the kitchen area outside the food shelf, while cash contributions can be securely placed in the utility dropbox labeled “Food Shelf.” This holiday season, let’s unite in supporting our community by ensuring the shelves are stocked and hearts are. The Becker NHS is doing a food drive as well, December 11-15.

Becker NHS: Along with the food drive the Becker NHS is also collecting clothes, clothing accessories (hats, gloves, scarves, ties, purses, wallets, belts, bags), bedding, towels, table cloths, shoes, and bedding to donate to the epilepsy foundation. You can send these items with any student at Becker Public Schools, please put them in a box or bag marked NHS/Melissa Nicolas and have them bring it to their school office.

By coming together as a community, we can make a positive impact and spread the holiday spirit of giving and joy.
