Fighting Against Anti-Mining Provisions

This week, congress is back in Washington continuing to combat Coronavirus and get our economy booming again.

Last week, I worked with my colleagues from Minnesota to protect jobs in our state, met with Minnesotans from across the Sixth District, and announced a great new competition for students to test their technical skills.

Minnesota Mining

Last week, I joined my friend and fellow Member of Congress Representative Pete Stauber in fighting against anti-mining provisions that were added to an appropriations package for government funding. Ultimately, the bill included provisions designed to ban the operation of existing and future mines in Minnesota. I believe that America’s foundation was built by the American worker, and in Minnesota much of that work was done by our miners.

I took to the House Floor to speak for the Minnesotans and Americans who rely on these jobs. Unfortunately, House Democrats passed this partisan bill, but I am hopeful the Senate will stand up for Minnesota.

Congressional App Challenge

Each year, my office has participated in the Congressional App Challenge. Congress established this challenge to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) skills, which are critical to the American workforce.

This competition invites high school students around the country to compete against their classmates in creating their own software application, better known as an app. The application period has begun! To learn about how to apply and to learn the rules surrounding the challenge, head to my website at emmer.house.gov.

Fighting for the Unborn

I recently became a co-sponsor of Rep. Ann Wagner’s amendment which is being considered on the House floor this week. The provision would ensure that no funds from this bill would be given to a facility that fails to care for an infant that survives an attempted abortion.

I am proud to stand with my fellow Republican colleagues in Congress to protect the rights of the unborn and honor the sanctity of life.
