At Becker Public Schools, the safety and well-being of our students are top priorities. As we strive to fulfill our mission of “Developing self-directed learners to thrive in a changing global community,” we recognize the crucial role of social-emotional learning (SEL) in creating a safe and supportive school environment.

The use of SEL in our schools directly aligns with our Strategic Plan’s focus areas, particularly the area of “Safety and Well Being.” It reinforces Goal number 3, which emphasizes the importance of providing resources, removing barriers, and creating exceptional learning opportunities for all students within a safe, supportive, inclusive, and collaborative culture.

By incorporating SEL into our curriculum and school culture, we address the objectives aligned with this goal and further our commitment to supporting our students. SEL equips our students with the skills and competencies necessary to navigate challenges, build positive relationships, and effectively manage their emotions.

Our Strategic Plan underscores the significance of fostering a safe, supportive, inclusive, and collaborative culture. Through the implementation of SEL, we create an environment where students feel valued, respected, and connected. By prioritizing the social-emotional well-being of our students, we promote a positive school climate that enhances learning, growth, and overall academic success. 

The objectives associated with Goal number 3 not only align with our commitment to SEL but also contribute to a comprehensive approach to support our students. By providing the necessary resources and removing barriers, we ensure that every student has equitable access to exceptional learning opportunities. Through a collaborative culture, we actively engage all stakeholders in creating an inclusive environment that promotes student well-being and success.

Incorporating SEL into our educational framework reflects our dedication to nurturing the whole child. By focusing on the social-emotional development of our students, we equip them with vital life skills that extend far beyond their academic journey. These skills empower our students to navigate challenges, develop resilience, and cultivate positive relationships, ultimately preparing them for success in a changing global community.
