FREEDOM DAYS. The Becker American Legion float leads the way in the 2014 Freedom Days parade.

Becker Freedom Days Are Your Days

The Becker Community rolls out its annual celebration starting Sunday night - and you and family are very much invited to take part in the festivities.

There is an unusual twist to the beginning of the celebration this year, as the local organization, ACT on Alzheimers, will sponsor a special showing of the well-known music performer Glen Campbell, in I’ll Be Me, a story about his transitioning from a pop star and music icon to a person suffering from the dread disease. Our society is just coming to grips with this disease and how it affects afflicted ones - and their families. See the Freedom Days ad inside this paper to get complimentary tickets.

There are the customary medallion hunts, ice cream socials, seniors potlucks and Freedom Days walks and runs. Take time out of your busy schedule to be part of things.

Family hits should include the Friday night Celebration of Freedom BBQ and entertainment, sponsored by the local military and veterans associations, set for behind the Becker Community Center.

And Saturday morning’s parade, which for variety of units and excitement, rates as one of the best around.

Be sure to read the list of Freedom Days sponsors at the bottom of the ad; they are the people who defray the costs of putting this wonderful week of activities together.
Freedom Days, of course, is much the work of Jamie Cassidy and his staff and community volunteers at the Becker Community Center. When you see them, be sure to give them a pat on the back.

For 2 Parents
I was reading a weekly newspaper from not too far north of here last week, reviewing the biographies of the top 10 graduating students at their local high school.

Every one of the 10 students listed a mother and a father in their home. Not to say kids from split-up homes can’t achieve. I believe it’s far easier when both parents are at the kitchen table.
