A Few Things in December

I usually have some idea of what I am going to write about, but this time was different. Nothing specifically had been pressing on me, but there were a few things. I couldn’t decide so I’m putting them together.

Beauty

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, “said Shakespeare.  There is beauty all around and in many forms and implores all our senses. Sometimes it right out there for us to see, like a sunrise or sunset. Sometimes, you have to look closer to find it; a smile, a look or a kind gesture.

Sometimes it can be heard, like gentle rain, music or children’s laughter. Beauty can be in a touch, like a hug, holding a hand or the soft coat on your dog’s head.

The smell of a rose, bread baking or a newborn baby can be beautiful scents.

Sometimes, a taste of something you like can bring euphoria. A favorite dish, chocolate or that first sip of coffee, can entice the palate. And we all know the taste of victory is sweet.

For me, beauty is looking at the sky throughout the day, from early morning to nightfall. You never know what you are going to see. God is a wonderful artist. And beauty is also in people and I like to capture the moment. I’m always taking pictures.

Beauty does wonders for the spirit, especially when it is felt.

Thoughts

Thoughts… They bombard our mind daily. According to neuro psychology, we have approximately “6,200” thoughts daily. I didn’t realize it was that many, but then again, my thoughts are always changing, so maybe the number is realistic.  What we think about can be impacting on our life. This is fascinating to me.

Scientists, psychologists and doctors have known for years about the power of the mind. How we can turn around physical setbacks, situations, outcomes by changing the course of our thoughts. I have always known the mind is powerful and can do great things. Recently, I have learned more.

The Secret, a book by Rhonda Byrne and a Netflix documentary, opened up my eyes to what we are really capable of.  What some of the most famous people in history have used and known.  People like, Beethoven, Galileo, Einstein and Edison.

There are laws in the universe. In particular, the Law of Attraction, which means, what we think about, we attract and bring into our life -  most of the time without knowing we do. Sounds strange yet it makes sense, just like faith. If we believe our prayers are answered, that sets God in motion.  In Mark 11:24, God says, Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you received it and it will be yours. To think, believe and attract good things are worth the practice.

December

There is a lot that goes on in December. It is the last month of the year, winter starts and of course, Christmas. The holiday parties, Christmas programs, New Year’s Eve and a few dates I can’t forget.

December 17 was mom’s birthday.  I try and do something special even though she’s not here to celebrate. This year it on a Saturday, maybe I’ll go dancing, because she loved too or maybe visit a few of her friends, because she loved people or spend time with family, because that meant the most.  December 21, is the day Scott and I met and then had our first date, eight days later. This was 1984.Thirty-eight years together and married 35.

December 24, Christmas Eve, a time spent with family. But there’s more. I can’t help but remember a good friend who passed away two years ago. Cheers EJ!

I’m convinced the spirit of Christmas is in the air and the heart throughout December. For some, it is year-round. This is the time of reflection; to fulfill any last minute goals or dreams and then, open the door to the New Year.

Find the beauty, have good thoughts and enjoy December’s blessings.
